Fakes in the pokemon community are not uncommon. One of the first videos I recall watching was from a creator PokeRev on YT. He had bought a booster box of rare card packs and sold the rights to some of the packs to viewers to offset the costs. Opened them on live stream and pretty quickly figured out they were fakes.
I think the reason this set of fakes is so concerning is the they were verified and graded cards, and the grading service, CGC, claimed to have verified versions of those cards by the original artist, so their verification was almost like a ‘good as gold’ stamp on those auctions. Several of the auction sites and CGC themselves are looking into this and I won’t be surprised if there are eventually lawsuits over this.
